Al Jazeera reports on the paramilitarization of the police.

“The most disturbing repercussion that we see happening is when officers are dressing up in military garb, camouflage uniforms, military boots and helmets, and now you put M16s in their hands, there’s just a subtle change in their whole mentality when it comes to policing,” he said. “They begin to view the people in the community as adversaries, as the enemy, instead of people who have constitutional rights.”

Well, Bostonians will know exactly where to go to get a AR-15/M-16/M4 - the article doesn't make it clear exactly what it is the BPD will have in their patrol cars.

It's rather perverse when an Islamist-run "news" outlet is the one to warn us about the issue ...

Yeh Carl. I find that a bit odd too. I've also heard that these Spec Ops 'wanna be' types don' thave the specialized training that real Spec Ops guys have ...mainly the knowledge and trigger reaction training necessary to keep them from blowing away the wrong person.

Officers are routinely discovering "assault rifles" on the streets? I guess MA much applauded anti-firearms laws do not have much of a deterrent effect.

I remember when a local agency was issued Ruger Mini-14s, which were contained in a zippered nylon case with magazine pouches on the sides. The case was stored in vehicles' trunks. They were qualifying with us at the range, and some of the officers' shots were not striking the target. It was discovered that the folding rear sights had not been flipped up when they were removed from the bag. Thank goodness this error was discovered before actual use in the community.

As Carl pointed out, we should not have to be learning this from a radical islamist propaganda outlet, or are they reporting real news now?
